My name is Desislava Teneva and this is my Social worker portfolio page.
I am a Social worker by profession and by desire. I am full of energy, highly motivated person, having a lot of ideas waiting to be realized.
I received my Masters of Social Work Degree with children and adolescents from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" in Bulgaria in August 2001 and my Bachelors degree from Burgas Free University in Bulgaria in August 1999.
I have had diverse experiences with a wide range of skills in a variety of activities.
During the years of my professional career I have worked as a community social worker, outreach worker, counselor, professional consultant, trainer, Manager of non-government organizations, project coordinator and fundraiser and constantly improved my knowledge and qualifications.
I have the following experience gained through the years:
- good understanding of local policies and practices related to local democratic governance;
- experience in carrying out activities of community development and networking and awareness of community organizing;
- solid understanding of the mechanisms, manifestations and consequences of multiple forms of discrimination and their impact on the lives of people;
- experience with European and/or international funded projects;
- awareness of existing programmes of the Council of Europe, European Union and other institutions related to Roma, education, health care and traffic prevention;
I have more than fifteen years of solid professional experience at the non-government sector, directly on the field, working with Roma community, vulnerable women and children and adolescents on longtime projects and programs for:
- prevention of AIDS/HIV among young Roma aged 18 to 25;
- prevention of tuberculosis among the Roma community;
- prevention of trafficking among Roma girls, Roma women and orphanage children;
- social work with children aged from 7 to 18 at the orphanage;
- social work with children, actively using drugs and alcohol;
- providing social and financial education for children from 3 to 18 years old;
- prevention of dropping-out of the school system of students from ethnic minorities;
- social work with adopted children, adoptive families and biological partners;
Currently, I am a Manager of Integra Bulgaria Association, National Coordinator and Master trainer of Aflatoun Bulgaria as a part of the worldwide network Aflatoun international for social and financial education of children, member of pool of Bulgaria Romact experts of the Council of Europe and education mediator at the Municipality of Burgas.
I am continuously searching for new opportunities and have the desire to expand my worldview becoming a part of a professional team, worldwide!
